VP-FAZ finally departs Akureyri.

Russ, Alex, Tom depart 4am. Arrive back in UK.

Jon and Ian depart 4am. Alexandra departs in morning.

FAZ stayed in hangar. Reroll complete. Cargo packed except one box at house. Apparently we were in the Icelandic paper on page 3 yesterday and today.

FAZ into hangar during the day to start removing equipment. Most removed from aircraft. Dinner at Ian's house. The clunking noise on taxi was traced to the equivalent of a shock absorber - but think solid rather than sprung. Aircraft grounded until new part fitted. Part on its way. Vicky and Steve will remain with the aircraft.

Jon's daughter left on 4am flight. Midday topograpic flow flight over Iceland for Jon, Vicky, Tom and Andy. Inlet response calibrations for Picarro and final data download.

Overflight of moored buoy. Jon, Kent, Alex. Penultimate flight. Good Aurora in evening.

No fly day.

Short flight to Husavik for Vicky, Kent, Tom, Alexandra. Good weather, high of 9 C. Dan returned to UK. Jon and daughter driving to Myvatn.

Ground Calibration and data download of Picarro. Licor finally calibrated. CPC installed. Working but nozzle pressure is low. Ambassador and staff visited aircraft in afternoon. Kent finished aircraft training. Dan leaving meal.

Jon, Vicky, Alex, Andy flying to Constable Point and back to try and find a suitable patch of weather to work in. Kent Moore & wife arrived. UK Ambassador reception in afternoon. Above zero weather again. Forecast of 8 C on Friday. Jon's daughter arrives. MASIN data missing from first flight. Front camera cables intermittent on second flight after changing card. Downward camera working at last.

No flight today, unsuitable conditions everywhere! Visit to aircraft from Director of University. Trying to work out how to get Dangerous Goods out of Akureyri as no one here seems to be able to sign the documentation for them! Annick and Denis returned home? Positive temperatures, wet roads.

Later start for flight over Iceland. Jon, Vicky, Tom, Ian. Flying over Iceland in good weather. Sounds fun! Changed Licor scrubber but unable to calibrate on own. Picarro fully heated before engine start. Steve did 7 day check. Ian off to Reykjavik tonight for WMO/YOPP meetings.

Down day.Tom, Jon, Dan went for a drive to a waterfall? Sunny morning, snow later.

Russ overslept. Day off, cycle, snowshoe. Jon day off. Vicky, Tom et al went to airport and came back. Not flying.

Later start. Vicky day off, horse riding. Jon, Alex, kjersti, Denis flying. Weather at site not good so back earlier. Sunnier day. Alexandra taking over from Harald who left 4am this morning. Ship people visiting aircraft. CPC installed and removed again.

Snow overnight. Early start. Tom, Vicky, Jon and Lucas flying to Constable Point and back. Got off well this morning, snow clearing, instrument heating and one blast from the de-icing chemical truck. Snow showers most of the day. Date set to leave on March 23rd. CPC instrument serviced ready for butanol refill and installation in aircraft. Ship arrived in Akureyri for crew rest. Ian hosting science drinks evening (BYO!) for ship visitors.

Snow overnight. Harald and Tom due to fly with presummably both pilots as usual. French film crew fitted GoPro cameras in the cabin. Snow cleared from aircraft. Trying to rig external mains power to science kit. Aircraft parked further away than expected. Cable just reaches. Connector broken during installation in the baggage check-in area. New connector found and terminated. Flying on hold waiting for snow showers to pass through Akureyri. Managed to get Harald's instrument up to temperature ready for flight and kept attended until after lunch when flying was binned. Sunny afternoon. More snow showers in evening.

Early start. Single flight Andy, Alex but both Jon and Vicky again. Managed to pre-heat Picarro instrument on ground power although power cut once when baggage cart from scheduled flight ran over and dragged cable. Lots of snow clearing in town. Sorted boxes needed near aircraft. On landing, reported issues with Temperature sensors. Couldnt find any problems on ground. No Downward looking camera, so unbolted. Wait for filming again before we could move boxes into offloaded baggage area and shown where we should be able to plug in power in the morning. Aircraft sat outside for first time tonight.

Weather good at Reykjavik, not great at ship but plan is to reposition to Akureyri. Lots more snow in Akureyri. Harald and student started doing CRM training so they can fly before Harald leaves. Aircraft arrived just after lunch. Ground Power installed but only for wing refuelling. Mass of Media filming. Much time later pulled into hangar and able to start the 1hr heat up of Picarro in order to do calibration. Main display screen changed because of lines across it. Probably damaged shipping from Antarctica. Camera Bay video memory card was stuck again, no data. Late night processing last two flights of data. This is likely the last night in the hangar for a while, but that may make ground power easier.

Sunday flight planned to Constable Point and back. 6:30am start from the house. Roads snowed up. Airport slow to get going. Couldn't find anyone to open hangar or tow the aircraft but still snowing anyway. Constable weather not good. Aircraft towed out for flight to ship and back but Akureyri weather not great, Reykjavik as alternate. More snow. Covers on except for BAT probe as no ladder. Alex, Annick, Jon, Vicky went flying. Heavy snow at Akureyri. They attempted an approach and diverted to Reykjavik for the night. French film crew were at the airport, nothing to film.

Saturday declared a day off for some reason. Flight planning people? Pretty good weather after snow yesterday. Nina and Haraldur arrived in evening from Icelandic Met. Office. Backlog of flight data processing/archiving cleared. Second car hired by BAS, for driving to University?

Steve had his mandatory day off. Russ and Harald finished installing the isotope equipment. Flights binned for the day due to snow in Akureyri so Jon was able to do EMI/EMC test on isotope kit outside so it is now ready to measure inflight. Radar Altimeter connected up. CPC wick changed but instrument still undergoing maintenance. Downward video card jammed into camera. Removed but no data. Tip covers on CAPS probe melted as heaters had been left switched on when power applied for testing.

Russ took day off. Tom, Ian, Jon, Vicky flew Akureyri to Constable Point and back, so lots of science. Video cards not changed at Constable Point.

Russ and Harald worked on the isotope instrument from 7am. Install cut short for flight to ship and back with Tom, Andy, Denis and Vicky. Install continued in evening until thrown out of hangar at 7pm.

Tom did CAPS calibrations this morning while Russ modified software. Two pilot training flights today where we also switched the instruments on. Tom and Russ on first flight. Alex and Russ on second. Replugged pressure sensors. Laser Altimeter ok, but maybe could be better although sea was glassy. Radar Altimeter signal still not good. Jon said he saw a whale. Science flights planned for tomorrow 7am takeoff.

Dan ran Crew resource management training with non-BAS people who will fly in the morning. Pilots did aircraft familiarisation talk to non-BAS team. In the afternoon we collected airside passes at the airport and briefing followed by aircraft familiarisation tours. Between all this we finished fitting out the second rack, fitted the inside parts of the Brechtel Aerosol Inlet, made a new bracket to fit the downward looking video (old one left at Rothera) and drilled an access hole for it in the Camera Bay board. Instruments were switched on and pretty much everything is working that is installed. Harald has not returned yet. Weight and Balance of the aircraft up to date. Ready for training flights tomorrow .

Jon and Vicky went on a tour to Myvatn and surroundings. Alex and Dan did a mega shop for food for the house. Ian and Andy set up the office in the University room. Steve, Russ, Tom fitted the BAT Probe, Aerosol Inlet, Pylon and Cloud Probe, Roof Radiometers, Buck Hygrometer, Side Inlets, Forward Rack (removed CPC instrument), Rear Rack, drilled pump tray mount for rear rack, drilled Camera Bay outer plate for Laser Altimeter. Alex cooked meatballs and spaghetti. Flight plan put in for test flights on Tuesday (27th). Harald flew off to Isafjord to fix some instrumentation on the ship.

Pilot's phonecall with ship. Steve and Russ working on aircraft including 7 day check. Ian, Andy, Harald arrive in the morning. Aircraft prepared for install tomorrow. Cargo arrived by truck from Reykjavik at 5pm just as we were leaving. Warm again today. Alex went Ice skating (indoors)! We went out for fish and chips!

Ian and Andy delayed from Gatwick. Overnight in Reykjavik? Onward Akureyri flight cancelled due to crosswinds in pm.

Dan, Tom, Alex saw around University room. Jon and Vicky having a rest day. Steve and Russ had morning off before going to airport for introductions in afternoon. Aircraft moved into Norlandair hangar. Steve trying to fix a lighting issue in cockpit. Emptied aircraft, found cargo sent from Cambridge and Bergen. Moved some boxes back to house. Ari the airport manager helped track down the 600 Kg of cargo coming from Santiago that was still in Reykjavik and arranged for it to come by truck rather than flying. Should arrive after lunch tomorrow. 6 C. Ice melting on streets.

Tom, Alex, Russ fly Heathrow to Reykjavik. Clarity failed to pay for bike. Flight to Akureyri delayed.

VP-FAZ flying Iqaluit to Kangerlussuaq, refuel and onwards to Akureyri arriving midnight with Jon, Vicki and Steve.

Most cargo flew last night to Reykjavik. Remainder came on our flight, although we didn't see it.

Moved into house. Dan had already bought basic supplies. Assembled bike. Saw Aurora.
