UK Comparison Flight May 2017


This is the diary of the BAS instrumentation for a comparison flight against the NERC FAAM 146 aircraft.


Russ and Zach removed final kit from aircraft and returned to Cambridge in standard van.
Centre brownline fitted and cabin seat ready for NARF fit.
Liam fitted rear baggage area mounting plate for NARF.
Liam departs UK Monday 15th.


Russ and Zach removed all external components and one rack and returned cargo to Cambridge in Large van.


Tom, Neil and Russ were flown by Al Howland. First leg to Humberside to refuel.
Comparison flight legs with FAAM aircraft over North Sea and then return to Duxford.


Russ and Liam finished checks, install and troubleshooting. Weight and balance updated.

EMI/EMC testing to do still.


Instruments largely troubleshot in morning which was handy as Alan and Al flew us all to Cranfield in the afternoon for a meeting. Instruments powered up and mostly working ok.


Tom, James and Russ drove down with gas bottles and plumbing.
James made up all the plumbing.
Racks powered up and switch labels updated.
Significant troubleshooting to do on instruments.


Russ and Liam removed ICE-ARC camera bay kit and fitted racks and most of cabling, plumbing.
Gas bottle racks fitted.


Tom and Russ drive large van of kit from BAS to Duxford.
Aided by Liam, ICE-ARC rack removed and external instruments fitted.
Racks lifted into aircraft.
