Several weekend University trips to Lake District,
often scrambling routes and including a Park Rangers course
on ice axe use which involved dressing us in fertilizer sacks and
throwing us down slopes!

A weekend trip to the Rhinogs in Wales.

An Easter trip with Sally and Maureen using the
cheap train tickets to Strathcarron and hiking over to Torridon. Our
walking was unfortunately confined to the valleys, but stunning scenery.

I competed in the Capricorn 40km two day orienteering
event in the Galloway hills, coming in 10th in class.

The Harvester orienteering relays were in Pembrey
forest and I ran the 10km night leg.

Walked with Mike near his parent's home in Edale.

Met Sally in Plymouth after her sail training voyage.
We hired a tandem and took it onto Dartmoor camping, but we managed
to clean it up before we returned it.

Worked at BT in Ipswich during the summer on a
trial text markup language project which seemed pointless at the time.
I guess it was a forerunner of what is now known as HTML.

Went backpacking in Jotunheimen, Norway with two
other BT students for 10 days and learnt how to choose routes on glaciers
and to pull people out of bergshrunds.

Decided it was time to get some formal mountain
training and did my Mountainwalking leader training (summer) in the
Lakes.

Manned a control on the Karrimor in Snowdonia with
an overnight mountain rescue callout to evacuate an injured competitor
(Luckily I was now trained...)

Competed in the Rodings Rally a 10 mile overnight
treasure hunt/orienteering event in Epping Forest.

Went Caving in Long Churn and Alum pot with Ipswich
Mountaineering club.

Ran the Cleveland Navigator again on North York
Moors. 4th place.
