Event History

The Mountain Navigation Challenge is a 2-day Mountain Marathon Score Event, involving teams of two people navigating over open/mountainous terrain.  The aim is to score as many points as possible by finding checkpoints in the allocated time.

It is understood that the event originated as one for outdoor centre staff, and was run exclusively on the Howgills in the early years, leading to it being labelled the Howgill Mountain Marathon. More recently the event venue has been any area in Northern Britain. The name was subsequently changed to the Mountain Navigation Challenge – though the year is not clear. The event has always been small in numbers, which helps to maintain the friendly atmosphere.
